My portrait of the late conductor Claudio Abbado will be installed in the Berlin Philharmonic, with a big celebration of the Friends of the Berlin Philharmonic.
To me, Abbado and the Berlin Philharmonic embody the noblest kind of loving devotion to the spiritual work of another. The portrait will join the collection of portraits of all former chief conductors in the South Foyer – across from Karajan and Alexander Archipenko’s portrait of Furtwängler.
It took some time for my approach to realize Abbado’s diversity of expression … This is my 14th head of Claudio Abbado — of 18 so far.
