TWO GIRLS I met at Fanally’s invited me to prepare a show for their “Alternative Art Space” at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

“the sublime is inside”

is a poem. It is my “Sturm und Drang”-tractatus philosophicus in 3³ symbols about human knowledge abilities facing the assumed “sublime inside” of the forever unknown sphere. Metaphorically characterizing elements collage a comprehensive constellation, sharply, subtly and I hope charmingly defining our sphere.

- the entrance room with the entire installation, - a sealed up room, -  by a blackboard instead of the door, -  with seven seals of roses, - with chalk written on the blackboardt: “= = =” and - “the sublime is inside”, - an empty hourglass mounted on it, - a slightly opened window into this room, - a fishing rod thrown through this window-slot, - a lucky horse shoe above the sealed doorway, - golden barbed wire barricades the entire room and the window, - underneath the barbed wire rose petals, - in the barbed wire a wheel, - an old heating system tube goes deep into the room, so deep and dark you can’t see anything, - a lit on flashlight lays into this tube, - on the wall mounted: on the left a mirror, - on the right a polaroid-camera, - a seat stick to leaning on a wall, - an open suitcase containing: - a cup with sand, - a key with two handles, - a condom, - a sheep fur covered bible with the blind people sign burned in, - a rubic’s cube, - a nail that is sawn in, - in the lucky horse show is hung a brass chain lined through the fishing rods thread, - down this brass chain hangs a balance right above the suitcase

ONCE FOR ALL here I summed up what is in and out of our reach. Me concluding that the approach makes the answer and only unveils the questioner. Not more–but not less either! It took me some time to transform my initial shock and deep frustration about the narrowness of our field into the sudden joy to see the rich opportunities on display. Not knowing how to continue at first I went to Berlin to study philosophy and art history.

HOW TO CONTINUE AT ALL? The solution came occasionally only three month later. I made a bust of Christian Modersohn who happened to be the father in law of my sister. This was so relieving just to look and let go–instead of dropping my brain into all different whatsoever topics. Then the result! How did I do this? How comes? And where in the shapes is all this said? Since then I am about conceptual visual investigation. I hope one sees unveiled both my approach and the deep longings of myself.
